INTRODUCTION:

Bancroft's School is an independent day school that caters to both genders and is situated in Woodford Green, London Borough of Redbridge. The school was founded in 1737 and has a long history. The institution, which is well-known for its competitive atmosphere, offers a demanding curriculum meant to promote intellectual development. A high emphasis on extracurricular activities like music, theatre, art, and DT complements the wide range of academic disciplines, which include science, math, humanities, and technology. This promotes holistic development. Notably, Bancroft provides the customized Lion Diploma program, which emphasizes personal development and encourages students to reach their full potential in terms of social, intellectual, and artistic domains by conducting research, evaluating, and communicating effectively with peers.

Apart from its scholarly programs, Bancroft's prioritizes pastoral support. The core values of the school are kindness, honesty, and the quest for greatness. This philosophy is reflected in the extensive PSHE curriculum, which is a highlight that broadens students' perspectives and gives them the skills they need to successfully navigate the world. Positive relationships flourish on campus as a result of the school's proactive and all-encompassing approach to pastoral care, which helps to create a safe and loving atmosphere for students.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

Families get the rare chance to discover firsthand what it means to be a member of the Bancroft community during Open Mornings and Evenings. The activities usually start with a talk from the Head, proceed to campus with guided tours, and end with refreshments.

Oversubscription Criteria:

There are no oversubscription criteria for the school.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

To be eligible for 11+ admissions to Bancroft's School, your child needs to fill out the registration form and pay £125, which is a non-refundable fee. Registrations must be completed by the first of December of the year before entry (during your child's Year 6 year). At Bancroft's School, admission to Year 7 is determined by the results of competitive entrance exams and an interview. We will evaluate reports from the school where your child is currently enrolled.

About 450–500 students take the exam annually, with 60 spots up for grabs. Candidates who do well on the online exam and papers will be called back to the school for an interview with a staff member as part of the assessment process. Early March is the deadline for accepting offers, which are placed in February.

CATCHMENT AREA:

There is no defined catchment area.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES:

The school provides assisted placements, music scholarships, and academic scholarships. Scholarships are not financial awards; rather, they are seen as an esteemed acknowledgment of students' aptitudes.  Children are awarded academic scholarships based on their performance in the entrance exam and interview. Recipients of the Music Scholarship will be required to contribute significantly to the school's musical activities and will have the chance to advance their abilities through master classes, composition, etc.

To facilitate education for students from diverse backgrounds, Bancroft offers Assisted Places. These are given out after a careful analysis of your financial situation, and they are reviewed every year.  Recipients of Assisted Places will need to uphold the behavior and academic standards of the school and provide a positive example for other students. The Initial Assessment of Income Form (IAIF) for Assisted Place must be submitted by November 1st of the year before entrance to be considered for the award, which may cover up to 100% of costs.

EXAM FORMAT:

Three tests make up the Bancroft's School admission exam:

·       CEM Select

·       English

·       Mathematics

Your child's proficiency in Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, and Numerical Reasoning is tested online using CEM Select.

The English paper looks at writing abilities, such as punctuation, grammar, and spelling. Excellent use of form, innovation, organization, coherence, and sentence structure will earn points.

The Math test evaluates arithmetic and problem-solving capabilities. Questions on numbers, measurements, geometry, algebra, and statistics may be included in the paper.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

To be ready for admittance to the exclusive Bancroft's School, one should take a careful approach. As experts advise, students should make sure they have a firm grasp of the material covered in Year 5 by scheduling regular, short study sessions rather than depending only on practice papers. Reading widely across genres and writers at home can improve your ability to write both creatively and analytically. Fostering a curious mind, conversing about current events, and participating in a range of activities, like trips to museums, all add to a more comprehensive foundation for learning. Before trying practice exams, which help with problem-solving and test-taking skills development, confidence in Year 5 themes is essential. To maintain motivation during preparation, it is important to set realistic goals, recognize and celebrate effort as well as accomplishments, and encourage persistence when faced with difficulties.

Students who routinely achieve scores of 80% or higher on the practice exams ought to be prepared for the written portions of the Bancroft's School 11+ exam. Bancroft’s School additionally utilizes the online CEM Select exam. CEM Select is a special test, which is very time-consuming. It is not required of the students to respond to every question. 60%+ is regarded as an exceptional grade when speaking of pass marks, and 50%+ is regarded as a perfect score. This is usually a pretty good indication that your child should perform well in Bancroft's School 11 Plus examinations, however, there are no promises.
