INTRODUCTION:

Trinity School is an independent day school in Croydon that educates boys aged 10 to 18 and has a coeducational sixth form. The school, formerly known as Whitgift Middle School, was founded in 1882 by Archbishop John Whitgift and was renamed Trinity School of John Whitgift in 1954. It is overseen by the Whitgift Foundation. The school relocated to Shirley Park in 1965 and has recently expanded its facilities to include a new music department, a sports pavilion, a learning support center, and an outdoor adventure center in Wales.

The Trinity Boys' Choir is well-known for its exceptional music program, having performed across the country and internationally, including on the soundtrack for "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald." Trinity School's recent GCSE results showcase its commitment to academic excellence: 43% of exams received a mark of 9, 70% received a grade of 9 or 8, and 87% received a grade between 9 and 7. These achievements highlight the students' dedication and the school's outstanding academic reputation.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

Every September, Trinity School hosts an event called Open Day, during which potential families are welcome to participate in a day filled with activities. Throughout the autumn term, there are excursions that you and your son can attend to tour Trinity's facilities and meet key staff members.

 APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Trinity School has an academically selective admission process for Year 7 students. Applicants are evaluated based on their performance on entrance exams, their current school's recommendation, and an admissions interview. To be considered for admission, applications must be submitted by October of the current year along with a non-refundable £200 application fee. The required documents include the application form, the applicant's birth certificate, their most recent school report, and any relevant scholarship applications.

The entrance exam consists of written papers and online exams. Those who score highly on the test are invited to a 30-minute interview. The interview focuses on discussing their academic background and extracurricular activities.

EXAM FORMAT:

The 11+ admission exam at Trinity School, Croydon, consists of:

·       Online tests

·       A creative writing task

·       A problem-solving paper

There are two sections to the online exams. The first section, referred to as the General Assessment, assesses the following abilities:

Mathematics: During this 20 minutes, questions that may include charts and/or diagrams are used to assess students' arithmetic and problem-solving skills.

English: This component consists of 20 minutes of multiple-choice questions designed to assess reading comprehension, as well as grammar and punctuation skills.

Verbal Reasoning: This 10-minute section concentrates on contextual awareness and vocabulary knowledge.

Non-Verbal Reasoning: Students' ability to interpret forms, graphs, and visual sequences is evaluated in this ten-minute part.

These modules are in online format after the General Assessment. 

20 minutes are allotted to the Creative Comprehension portion, which consists of multiple-choice questions based on various sources, including texts, schedules, diagrams, and maps.

Puzzles and Problem-Solving: This fifteen-minute segment consists of interactive puzzles that are followed by a typed response to an inquiry. Multiple-choice questions will be a part of this module.

Writing abilities, including spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation, are examined in the 30-minute English writing task. For effective use of form, innovation, organization, coherence, and sentence structure, points will be given. 

Basic statistics, algebra, geometry, and arithmetic will all be covered in this 30-minute math problem-solving exercise. These mathematical ideas must be applied by your son to resolve a variety of issues.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

Practice tests are a valuable tool to help students prepare for competitive entrance exams. Our Trinity School mock exams are available for immediate access upon purchase. These exams provide comprehensive practice on important concepts, identify areas of weakness for targeted improvement, and build confidence.

Typically, a student is more likely to pass the Trinity School 11+ exam if they consistently score above 75% on 11+ practice exams. While this is not a definite guarantee, it has historically been a strong indicator of success on the test.
